Responsibilities

School Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities that they must exercise as a body. They cannot act individually. The core responsibilities can be summarised as:

  • Providing strategic management
  • Acting as a critical friend to the school
  • Ensuring accountability
  • Promoting high standards of education and achievement
  • Planning the schools’ long term future
  • Formulate the school’s aims, values and policies
  • Appoint senior members of staff including the Head Teacher
  • Oversee how the school budget is spent

The Governors meet at least once per term, minutes and attendance of previous meetings may, on request, be read in school.
